  • Delhi Woman Allegedly Pushed Off From Rooftop, Dies; Accused Arrested

The accused disguised himself as the woman’s friend. “A heated argument broke out between them, following which he pushed her off the balcony of her home,” the police source told PTI

A 19-year-old woman, who was allegedly pushed off the rooftop of her house in northeast Delhi’s Ashok Nagar area by a person known to her, has succumbed to her injuries during treatment, an official said on Tuesday.

Police said that murder charges have been added to the case.

A source in the police said that the girl and the accused were in a relationship, and a heated argument broke out between them when the woman came to know that the accused was marrying another girl.

“The girl was reportedly angry at the accused, who is of another community when she came to know that he is marrying another girl. He came to her house located on the fifth floor of the building, wearing a burqa,” the source said.

The accused disguised himself as the woman’s friend. “A heated argument broke out between them, following which he pushed her off the balcony of her home,” the police source said.

The incident occurred on Monday morning and was reported to Jyoti Nagar police station around 8.30 am. Police said the accused has been arrested.

“In the attempted murder case reported on June 23 at Jyoti Nagar police station, Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has now been added, as the victim has died during treatment,” said the officer.

Police said multiple teams were constituted to arrest the accused. CCTV footage from the area was scanned to ascertain the sequence of events and track the movement of the accused before and after the incident.

A large number of locals and neighbours gathered outside the victim’s house on Tuesday, expressing grief and demanding justice. Tension prevailed in the area, but the situation remained under control with adequate police deployment.

The victim’s family members have demanded strict punishment for the accused, including capital punishment. They alleged that the act was deliberate and driven by deep-seated malice.

“We want strict punishment. He should be hanged for what he has done to our daughter. We will not rest until he is behind bars and gets the death penalty,” a relative of the girl said.

Further investigation is underway, and police said they are also recording the statements of the victim’s family members, neighbours and eyewitnesses to establish the full sequence of events.

  • Man Wearing Burqa Enters Delhi Teen’s Home, Pushes Her From 5th Floor

The accused, identified as Taufeeq, a resident of Rampur in Uttar Pradesh, was taken into custody late on Tuesday night after a brief period in hiding.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing a 19-year-old woman by pushing her off the fifth-floor rooftop of her residence in northeast Delhi’s Ashok Nagar. The accused, identified as Taufeeq, a resident of Rampur in Uttar Pradesh, was taken into custody late on Tuesday night after a brief period in hiding.

The incident was first reported to the Jyoti Nagar Police Station around 8:30 am on Monday. According to the police, the victim, Neha, was found in critical condition after being allegedly pushed from the rooftop of her family’s residence. She was rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital, where she died of her injuries later that day.

To conceal his identity and avoid detection by the victim’s family and neighbours, Taufeeq entered the residential building wearing a burqa. During interrogation after his arrest, Taufeeq admitted that he used the disguise to gain direct access to Neha without raising alarm.

CCTV footage shows a figure in a burqa entering the building and later leaving under suspicious circumstances. Investigators are working to reconstruct the full timeline of events using footage from multiple cameras positioned around the complex.

According to Delhi Police sources, Taufeeq and Neha were in a relationship for several months. Tensions arose when Neha discovered that Taufeeq was planning to marry another woman, reportedly arranged by his family. This revelation allegedly led to a heated argument between the two on the rooftop.

Neha’s family contests this version. Her father stated that Neha never had a romantic relationship with Taufeeq and that she used to tie a rakhi to him. The family claims they had known Taufeeq for nearly three years and that he had frequently visited their home.

  • Declare Campuses Drug-Free, Form Nasha Mukti Clubs: Delhi Minister Writes To Universities

In the letter, the Minister emphasised the critical role of the educational institutions in shaping a drug-free future for Delhi.

Ahead of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on 26th, Delhi’s Social Welfare Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh has now written to vice-chancellors of all universities in the capital, urging them to actively support the state’s drug prevention campaign. The Minister has called for the immediate formation of ‘Nasha Mukti Clubs’ across campuses and the official declaration of university premises as Drug-Free Zones.

In the letter, the Minister emphasised the critical role of the educational institutions in shaping a drug-free future for Delhi. “The dream of a healthy, empowered, and drug-free Delhi can only be achieved with strong public and institutional participation,” he wrote.

The initiative is part of the wider ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA)’, a national campaign led by the Government of India for drug demand reduction.

The Minister also invited university students to attend the mega event being organised by the state government at 9 am at the Yamuna Sports Complex. The event is expected to see widespread participation from students, educators, and civil society members.

Universities Urged To take Lead In Anti-Drug Action

The Minister in his letter has highlighted that drug addiction poses a serious threat not just to individuals, but to families and society at large. “Universities must act as the first line of defense against this menace,” he said, urging institutions to take proactive measures such as:

    • Establishing Nasha Mukti Clubs to create awareness and promote peer-led initiatives.
    • Declaring campuses as Drug-Free Zones with visible signages and policy enforcement.
    • Appointing dedicated nodal officers to coordinate anti-drug activities.
    • Uploading progress and initiatives on the NMBA portal/app for monitoring and impact assessment.
    • Engaging student volunteers, alumni networks, and social media influencers to amplify the campaign’s outreach.
    • Creative activities like street plays, short video contests, cultural events, and sports competitions to involve students in spreading awareness in an engaging manner.

Further, institutions have been asked to ensure strict compliance with the ban on the sale of tobacco products within 100 meters of campus boundaries.

Coordinated Effort For A Drug-Free Delhi

The Department of Social Welfare, acting as the nodal agency for drug demand reduction in Delhi, will create a dedicated WhatsApp group for university nodal officers to share campaign-related information, photographs, and progress updates. This, the Minister said, will enable better coordination and monitoring.

  • Delhi-Gurugram Commute Now Shorter: Trial Run Of Expressway Tunnel Begins

The strategically placed tunnel is expected to enhance mobility and reduce congestion in Delhi NCR.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on Friday began the trial run for tunnels and underpasses across the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway. The tunnel connects the expressway to the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI). It is aimed at decongesting the Delhi-Gurugram section of National Highway (NH) 48.

    What to know?

The 5.1 km long tunnel has two segments. The main 3.6 km eight-lane tunnel connects the Dwarka Expressway to IGI airport, according to The Times of India

The other one is a 1.5 km tunnel, which has two lanes, and links the expressway to NH-48 towards Gurugram.

The tunnel, for now, has been opened for a trial run from noon to 3 PM to manage peak afternoon traffic.

This is a significant step toward enhancing mobility and reducing congestion in Delhi NCR, besides improving connectivity to the IGI Airport from Gurugram, Manesar, Sohna, and Jaipur.

According to the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, the stretch open for the trial run includes a shallow tunnel connecting Dwarka/Yashobhumi with the Delhi Airport through airport underpasses.

Commuters can even travel towards Gurugram from Dwarka/Yashobhumi using the shallow tunnel and right-turn underpass.

Besides this, the airport underpasses and the right turn underpass will be used to travel from Terminal 3 to Gurugram towards Sirhaul.

Once the trial is over, the tunnel is expected to be fully operational from June 5.

Its strategic location and layout could be highly beneficial for daily commuters and help decongest the surface roads.

    Safety measures

Built with the help of advanced engineering, the tunnel has CCTV surveillance to keep track of vehicular movement.

There is a dedicated control room as well as emergency exits to ensure commuter safety and efficiency.

Through the trial period, the NHAI is monitoring traffic patterns to provide seamless integration into the city’s transport network.

    What is allowed?

For now, vehicles up to 4.5 meters are allowed to enter the tunnel.

The entry of slow-moving vehicles, such as two-wheelers, and three-wheelers as well as vehicles carrying flammable materials such as oil tankers, are restricted from entering the tunnel and underpasses.

The project is part of the Dwarka Expressway’s fourth phase.

The 29 km-long Dwarka Expressway, which costs about Rs 9,000 crore, is from Delhi’s Mahipalpur to Kherki Daula in Gurugram. While 10.1 km of it lies in the national capital, the remaining 18.9 km stretch is in Haryana.

  • Take Solid Step Now”: Javed Akhtar To Centre Over Pahalgam Attack

Lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar urged the central government to take strict action against Pakistan for their alleged connections to the recent inhumane terror attack on innocent civilians in Pahalgam, Kashmir.

Javed Akhtar was invited to inaugurate the ‘Glorious Maharashtra Festival’, which was organised to commemorate Maharashtra’s foundation day on Thursday.

While addressing the politicians and other attendees at the Maharashtra Festival 2025, the Lyricist Javed Akhtar requested the Central Government to take “solid steps” against terrorism, as he believes that “a few crackers on the border” are still not enough for the lives lost in Pahalgam. This has happened not just once but several times. I request that the Central Government take immediate steps. A few crackers on the border will not work. Take a solid step now. Do something so that the mad Army chief there (Pakistan), no sensible person can make a speech like he does. He says that Hindus and Muslims are different communities. He does not even care that there are Hindus in his country, too. So, do they have no respect? What kind of man is he? They should get a befitting reply so that they remember. They will not pay heed to anything less. I don’t know much about politics. But I do know that it is time for ‘aar ya paar,” said Javed Akhtar.

The noted screenwriter also remembered three tourists from Mumbai who lost their lives in a terror attack in Pahalgam.

“Sanjay Lele, Atul Mone & Hemant Joshi from this state were looking for a moment of peace and happiness. Perhaps they should not have done that. In search of that, they visited Pahalgam. They were mercilessly shot there. We should not forget this. This is nothing ordinary. Enemies and those who wish us evil have their eyes on Mumbai,” said Javed Akhtar. The co-writer of the ‘Sholay’ script shared an incident from his past, recounting a visit to Pakistan for a literary festival.

“I went to Lahore for a literary festival. They were asking me good questions and I was answering. A woman got up and told me that Indians consider them (Pakistanis) terrorists. I told her that I am a resident of Mumbai and I have seen my city burning. Those who came to burn it did not come from Sweden or Egypt; those people are roaming freely in your city even today,” shared Javed Akhtar.

The lyricist also shared that India has always sought peace with Pakistan, but the neighbouring nation has refused to reciprocate.

“What happened in Pahalgam is something which keeps happening after a few days. It is sad. What has Mumbai or this country done to you? Be it the Congress Government or the BJP, it always tried to have good relations with the neighbours,” added lyricist Javed Akhtar.Twenty-six people were killed in a terror attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22.

  • Lack Of Lift, Pilots Yanking Yoke: What May Have Happened In Plane’s Cockpit

Air India flight AI-171, from Ahmedabad to London, crashed shortly after take-off, having achieved a height of just 672 feet, and NDTV has – based on expert testimony – pieced together what may have happened in the last few seconds in the cockpit.

The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner had 242 people on board – 230 passengers, 10 crew members and two pilots – and crashed at 1.38 pm, shortly after take-off from the Ahmedabad airport. Videos show the plane struggling to gain altitude before it begins losing lift (upward force that allows an aircraft to stay airborne) and crashes, exploding in a ball of fire.

Based on an analysis of the video, experts said the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, a model that had an immaculate safety record, took off from the runway at Ahmedabad and experienced meagre thrust soon after.

The pilots, experts said, would have been yanking the yoke at this time in an attempt to gain lift and altitude, and the video shows that the plane’s landing gear was also down.

A Mayday call was issued after take-off, indicating the aircraft was in distress. Experts said that as the lift decayed, the pilots must have attempted to pull the nose of the plane up, but it kept descending.

174 knots, they added, was the maximum speed the aircraft could achieve, which should have been much higher, indicating that the engines were not generating enough power.

“The take-off was perfect and just, I believe, short of taking the gear up, the aircraft started descending, which can happen only in case the engine loses power or the aircraft stops developing lift. Obviously, the investigation will reveal the exact reason.” Captain Saurabh Bhatnagar, a former senior pilot, told NDTV.

The plane had 169 Indians, 53 British nationals, a Canadian and 7 Portuguese on board. Air India has also set up a dedicated hotline number: 1800 5691 444.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he is “stunned” by the tragedy and he is in touch with ministers and authorities. The tragedy in Ahmedabad has stunned and saddened us. It is heartbreaking beyond words. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with everyone affected by it. Have been in touch with ministers and authorities who are working to assist those affected.
